John Fiedler RIP

Wonderful voice and character actor John Fiedler passed away a few days ago at age 80.  Fiedler,  the voice of Piglet in Winnie the Poo and the image of lawyer J. Noble Daggart in True Grit, was a staple of both movies and television for 40 years and is instantly recognizable to anyone of the tevee generation ( and we are all hoping that he's been reunited with that big frog babe, Phoebe, from the Bewitched episode where he played the Frog Prince).

Fiedler, as everyone is perfectly aware, spent his entire career playing milquetoast nerdy types with squeeky voices - except in Sharky's Machine where he was kind of a badass.

Thanks for all the great shows, John.

Frank Gorshin RIP

Frank Gorshin died yesterday at age 72. Of course, he's best remembered for his Emmy-nominated role as the Riddler on the old "Batman" TV series in the 1960s. But a few of us most fondly recall him as Joe, the boozehound who discovers a dead space alien in the woods (and is subsequently killed as a result) in the 1957 classic Invasion of the Saucer Men. This cheap flick was first released on a double bill with the  more famous I Was a Teenage Werewolf. A  highlight from Invasion of the Saucer Men: the aliens are finally defeated when Earthlings discover their biggest weakness -- the glare of a car's headlights!

Ironically, Frank Gorshin's last performance ever will be broadcast tomorrow night on the season finale of the CBS series "CSI: Crime Scene Investigation," which I believe Quentin Tarantino directed.
