There's been management changes at the venerable Disney Corp. lately and maybe, just maybe with all the success of Tarzan on Broadway and the plans for a Del Toro directed big screen Tarzan of the Apes feature becoming finalized at Warners they've figured it's time to bring America's first superhero back to his former glory.
Or maybe Disney just wants to keep anyone else from owning JC and it's another dead end... but, either way, stand by your Gridley Wave Machines for breaking news as it arrives.

I'm unsure whether Serenity qualifies as being in the Burroughs tradition, or as retro science fiction; probably not.
However, over the weekend Locus Online News announced this year's Nebula award winners. Joss Whedon won a Nebula award for best script for Serenity.
If this sort of thing keeps up, maybe we'll see more of the story associated with those characters. I, for one, would like that very much.

Wow! This is a historic and important find. It's Ace Space Artist, Roy Krenkel Jr's (or as we know him, RGK) first cover for an Edgar Rice Burroughs novel and one of our all time favorite covers and stories, At The Earth's Core, - and it's been lost for forty years.
Fortunately, it is now safe and sound in the private collection of classic sci fi aficionado Steve X (name withheld to deter hordes of home invading space art fans) who sent the image and tale in to us - Thanks, Mister X. He knows our appreciation of all things Burroughs' Tradition. And make no mistake about it, gang, this is a genuine one-of-a-kind item that will only increase in value. Wonderful voice and character actor John Fiedler passed away a few days ago at age 80. Fiedler, the voice of Piglet in Winnie the Poo and the image of lawyer J. Noble Daggart in True Grit, was a staple of both movies and television for 40 years and is instantly recognizable to anyone of the tevee generation ( and we are all hoping that he's been reunited with that big frog babe, Phoebe, from the Bewitched episode where he played the Frog Prince).
Fiedler, as everyone is perfectly aware, spent his entire career playing milquetoast nerdy types with squeeky voices - except in Sharky's Machine where he was kind of a badass.

Frank Gorshin died yesterday at age 72. Of course, he's best remembered for his Emmy-nominated role as the Riddler on the old "Batman" TV series in the 1960s. But a few of us most fondly recall him as Joe, the boozehound who discovers a dead space alien in the woods (and is subsequently killed as a result) in the 1957 classic Invasion of the Saucer Men. This cheap flick was first released on a double bill with the more famous I Was a Teenage Werewolf. A highlight from Invasion of the Saucer Men: the aliens are finally defeated when Earthlings discover their biggest weakness -- the glare of a car's headlights!
Ironically, Frank Gorshin's last performance ever will be broadcast tomorrow night on the season finale of the CBS series "CSI: Crime Scene Investigation," which I believe Quentin Tarantino directed.
